Campaign Story
Philadelphia children’s home is under Highfields church of Nazareth, which is under the leadership of Rev and Mrs Mutatu. The Church was offered land after a sponsor noted the work the church was embarking on in terms of feeding programs in the community. 300 children were being fed in Highfields high density suburb in Harare through the church feeding program. The bulk of children fed where from child headed families who were affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
Some of the vulnerable and destitute children ended up residing at Rev Mutatu’s home as they were heavily depended on the one meal a day which they were offered and the need for safe living space or shelter. This situation gave birth to the establishment of Philadelphia 1 children’s home in Glenora A High density suburb of Harare. The home was registered with the Ministry of Social Welfare as a children’s home in 2007.
Currently the institution has a capacity of 21 children who are housed at the institution.
