Campaign Story
Thembiso Children’s Home is a registered orphanage which was officially opened in 1976. Th Home have a carrying capacity of 54 children. It was a dormitory system. In 2011 the home was re-organised from a dormitory style set-up to five family units in five houses, and it is working well. It used to run a pre-school which used to generate money to assist the Home, but it was stopped in 1997 because the current responsible authority, the Free Presbyterian Church of Scotland was taking over the Institution. The Children’s Home have a staff compliment of 18 and now the Institution is in family units. The family units ere downsized from 5 to 3 due to financial constraints.
The home is committed to creating and maintaining a caring and protective environment for the children. Its core value is the teaching and propagation of the Word of God. There is a weekly prayer meeting at Thembiso, and the Home Superintendent conducts worship with the family units daily. Workers also start the working day with worship at 7.30 a.m. The children attend Lobengula Church (Bulawayo) on the Lord’s Day
